Two Muslim Women Make History with Leadership Roles in ACCA. In a historic moment for the global accounting profession, two Muslim women have been appointed to key leadership positions in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a prominent international accountancy body.

Ayla Majid: First Pakistani and South Asian ACCA President

Ayla Majid has become the first Pakistani and South Asian to be elected as the president of ACCA. Her appointment is a landmark achievement for diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession. Majid, an expert in energy transition, sustainability, and corporate governance, brings over 20 years of experience to this role.

She will lead ACCA’s global network of more than 252,500 members and 526,000 future members across 180 countries during her year-long term. Majid’s presidency comes as ACCA celebrates its 120th anniversary, marking a new era of innovation and ethical practice in the field of accountancy.

Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan: Vice-President Championing Access to Finance Careers

Joining Ayla Majid in making history is Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan, a trailblazer from Malaysia who has been appointed ACCA’s vice-president. Zaiton is the CEO of the Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC), an organization dedicated to helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursue careers in finance. Her leadership reflects ACCA’s commitment to inclusivity and social mobility.

A Historic Milestone for Representation

For the first time, ACCA has women holding all three top officer roles, with Melanie Proffitt from England serving as deputy president. Together, these leaders are shaping a future for the accounting profession that prioritizes sustainability, diversity, and accessibility.

This milestone underscores the growing representation of women and Muslim professionals in global leadership roles, inspiring the next generation to break barriers and achieve excellence.
