Swiggy delivers 7.6 cr biryani orders in past 12 months in India

As the world eagerly anticipates International Biryani Day on July 2, online food delivery giant Swiggy has revealed an astounding statistic – Indians have placed a whopping 76 million biryani orders in the past 12 months. The nation’s love affair with this delectable rice dish shows no signs of slowing down.

According to Swiggy, biryani enthusiasts from all corners of the country have been indulging their taste buds, with a staggering average of 219 orders per minute for their favorite biryani variants. From the aromatic and regal “Lucknowi Biryani” to the fiery and flavorful “Hyderabadi Dum Biryani,” and from the rich and distinctive “Kolkata Biryani” to the fragrant and tantalizing “Malabar Biryani,” there is a biryani to suit every palate.

Swiggy’s in-depth analysis of biryani ordering trends for the first half of 2023 has revealed some interesting insights. Over the past five and a half months alone, there has been an impressive 8.26 percent growth in biryani orders compared to the same period in 2022. This indicates that the love for this beloved dish is continually expanding, captivating the hearts and taste buds of more and more people across the nation.

With over 260,000 restaurants offering biryani on the Swiggy platform, it’s clear that this culinary delight holds a prominent place in India’s diverse food landscape. Astonishingly, more than 28,000 of these restaurants specialize exclusively in serving biryani, a testament to its popularity and the expertise of chefs in crafting this mouthwatering dish.

Delving deeper into the cities that truly appreciate the biryani experience, Bengaluru emerges as the frontrunner, boasting nearly 24,000 biryani-serving restaurants. Mumbai follows closely behind with over 22,000 establishments, while Delhi delights in over 20,000 venues dedicated to serving this beloved rice delicacy. These numbers exemplify the widespread adoration for biryani, transcending regional boundaries and captivating taste buds nationwide.
