Dubai Launches Mallathon to Transform Malls into Fitness Tracks for Public Health: In a groundbreaking initiative to promote public health and wellbeing, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, has launched the Dubai Mallathon. This community-driven programme is set to encourage residents to engage in daily physical activity during the summer months.

Starting from 1 August to 31 August, shopping malls across Dubai will transform into organised walking and running tracks during morning hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The participating malls include Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, Springs Souk, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Mall of the Emirates, and Dubai Marina Mall.
Strategic Vision for a Healthier, More Connected Dubai
His Highness emphasised that Dubai aims to set new global benchmarks in wellbeing by making fitness an integral part of everyday life. He stated:
“With the Dubai Mallathon, we’re turning familiar spaces into places that inspire movement, connection, and better habits. We want everyone in Dubai to feel they can stay active and energised in welcoming spaces built with their needs in mind.”
He further added that fitness initiatives like Mallathon foster community connection, healthier lifestyles, and a vibrant social life, reflecting Dubai’s broader commitment to placing people and families at the heart of its development plans.

Inclusive Participation for All Segments of Society
The Dubai Mallathon, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and organised in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, targets all segments of society, including youth, senior citizens, residents, children, and shopping mall employees. The initiative will feature:
- Fitness tracking systems to motivate participants
- Health awareness stations providing practical wellness advice
- Guided stretching exercises to promote safe physical activity
- Dedicated children’s areas to engage young participants in fitness
His Highness encouraged all residents to participate, describing the Mallathon as a simple yet effective way to adopt healthier habits and engage with the wider community.
“Every step you take moves us closer towards a healthier Dubai. This is a shared journey. We are all partners in transforming our city into the world’s best place to live, work, and visit.”
Overcoming Summer Heat Challenges with Innovative Solutions
This initiative strategically leverages underutilised indoor spaces in malls, transforming them into safe, dynamic sporting environments. With Dubai’s intense summer heat, such indoor alternatives allow residents to maintain fitness routines year-round in air-conditioned, well-equipped settings.
The ‘Walk for Better Health’ programme, organised by Dubai’s Community Development Authority in collaboration with participating malls, will also run concurrently, focusing on building awareness about the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle even during peak summer.

Registration, Rewards, and Community Impact
Participation in Dubai Mallathon is free of charge. Interested individuals can register through the official website www.dubaimallathon.ae to receive a digital card confirming enrolment.
Additionally, restaurants and retail outlets will collaborate with the initiative to offer special deals and discounts aligned with its goals, promoting balanced nutrition and supporting participants in adopting long-term, sustainable healthy habits.
Future Expansion and Legacy
Organisers hinted that, depending on public reception, the Dubai Mallathon could become a regular feature during summer months, extending to other malls and indoor venues across the emirate. This aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33, which aim to provide residents with the highest standards of living, cultural engagement, and holistic wellbeing.
This initiative sends a strong message that Dubai is committed to building a healthier, happier society, where fitness is accessible, enjoyable, and seamlessly integrated into everyday life – reinforcing its ambition to remain one of the world’s most liveable cities.
